After reading all the posts from C4 vs C5, I'm looking at buying a C5. My question is what are everyone's thoughts on manual transmission vs the automatic. I feel after having an automatic in my current Vette that I think I should get a 6 speed. Some say automatics are the way to go in the long run but I think maybe you get more of the real sport car feeling with a manual, especially with the C5. What are your thoughts and opinions?

Hi, after posting this I noticed this has been a topic of discussion many times. I just read a numerious posts on this subject and it seems the 6 speed edges out the auto. I know it's pretty much personal opinion and the type of driving your going to do and where you live, but I was looking more at opinions of performance and in more towards C5's.

If it's a daily driver and you're going to commute in heavy, stop & go traffic...your left leg will thank you for an automatic. If not, 6 sp is the way to go.

I've only had two vettes with automatics, a 54 and 91. The other 6 have been 4 or 6 speeds. I don't want an automatic in my corvettes at all, but then I don't drive in heavy traffic anymore (retired), so that is not a factor. I drove a paddle shifter at Spring Mountain for one session and did not like it at all. Stick shift for me in my vettes, my other vehicles can be automatics. My 94 with the 6 speed is a lot of fun to drive; the 91 was not as much fun, but you have to make your own decision on this as it is a personal preferrence.

six speed

All my vettes have been sticks. From my 62, 66, 78, and my current Lt4 CE which is a speed. I know the autos are fun to drive, but not like the sticks. I love the old feeling of shifting, and surprising myself, and others. Save the wave.:w Larry

I will only say this, but keep in mind that I have over a half dozen cars and trucks and NONE of them are automatics:

Buying a sports car without a manual transmission is like hiring a prostitute with no "you know what" between her legs.

Even my Cadillac is a stick shift.
The wife drives an A6 06 and is happy with it but I prefer the stick for the fun quotient.

I've enjoyed my 6-Speed Vettes, but I think...

...paddle shifters would be nice to have! :thumb
