600km. round trip for parts...

Bob,

I agree with Mac, unless they have a stamp or something on the bumper they might, but I hope the wouldn't, say that they didn't do that set of bumpers, if they don't know already the amount of work and craftmanship that went into your car show them your site, and ask if they would put thoose bumpers on your car.

Tom

I'll be speaking to them, after they return from vacation. :Silly

Three evenings (2 to 3 hours each) and the front bumpers are "almost" installed. :mad

There were so many problems with this re-chroming job, that I'm too angry and tired to go into detail tonight. Some day soon, I'll tell the whole story. :(

Maybe my good buddy Z28Canuck will post some of the facts. He's been more help on this project than any of you could imagine.

I spent a VERY long time getting the front bumbers just right on my '66, even had to tweak the holes in the mounting brackets. When I had them just right I stepped back to have a look leaving the 4' level across them. DUH!!! The level
slipped off and I still have the scratches in the bumbers 13 years later.

Sorry to hear you had ploblems with the plater. That would have me PO'ed as well.

I picked up the ceramic-coated headers today. The special headbolts came on Friday (thanks Len) and now to see if everything will bolt on. :bang ;shrug
Driver's side....I have to grind off a 1/16" from the rear bottom corner of the Energy Suspensions motor mount. Probably have to grind a 1/32" off of the bottom header flange at each head bolt, even after installing the new bolts. I won't know for sure until I've ground off the motor mount corner.

Passenger's side....I have to grind off 1/32" deep by 1/4" wide on the bottom of the header flange at each bolt.

Oh, one more thing. I have to take the headers back tomorrow for corrections to three small areas. Luckily my buddy Doug (Z28Canuck) noticed while we were trying to fit them.

Is there quality control anywhere anymore???????????????????????????????

A 3.5 hour round trip AGAIN!

My advice to anyone trying to duplicate this project..........DON'T.

Last week, the woman who runs the office at the chrome shop took my complaint and promised me a return phone call from someone in upper management.

:z

Tic, toc, tic, toc....

Fuelie went with me today and the repairs and re-coating were made to the headers while we waited. (reminder.........this is a separate sad story from the bumper story :crazy)

Apologies for the inconvenience you ask? :confused

:L :L :L :L I answer. :eyerole

Another place that I will never recommend.

well, they look like they are going to be very quiet hooked up to that small motor of yours
:L

it should be easy to sneak in and out of the neighborhood with those on your car

circus wagon? you mean when you are done there will be clowns climbing out of the car in an endless progression?
LOL

well, if it was easy than you wouldn't have such a wonderful feeling once you finish it. Now you will know just what a major acomplishment you will have achieved at the end of that long road.

You've got more patience than anyone can imagine. Luckily the goal is always in sight to give you the drive to get you through it. I can't believe the outrageous costs for parts and the quality level you get for the money. :eyerole The amount of rework on "finished parts" is incredible. "Fits perfectly" ! ;LOL;LOL . There should be a credit system for the rework backcharges! Hang in there.
Oh, whenever he gets really fed up and ready to loose it I bring up TBV and like clockwork he shakes his head in disbelief and has a grin from ear to ear. Thanks for the relief TBV, we enjoy your antics and you make us appreciate our sanity:D ;)

Can see it now and when that peddle hits the floor I'll be right beside you yelling "Fly Bobo, Fly".;LOL Everyone will hear you miles away and feel the ground shake when your "Circus" comes to town so there is no sneaking into town for you.;) :upthumbs . After seeing some of the contortions you have to do to work on the car I do wonder at times if you're Rubberman. Cheers. Soon Bob, soon!:beer
