Click on the above URL and check the last two pictures in the 61 page. They are a little hard to view, but it should give you a good idea of what the numbers should look like.

Here's another sample that's well-preserved; it's a '67, but it was done with the same tool. :)

Thanks for the info. How often was it stamped twice within
about 6 inches of each other?

From what I understand some were stamped once and some were stamped twice. That's all I know. One of the stamps should be located near the drivers seat. Mine had a thin coating of tar over it which preserved it well.

Hi!

I believe that the thin layer of tar (or adhesive) was how they held the rubber frame cushion in place. One set of numbers was hidden by one of these cushions.

Hi Ray,
That is what I was thinking but I wasn't sure. I will have to deal with this soon though when I do the body drop.
PS: Tried to send you an email from your Vette site but it came back to me undeliverable, anyway nice site and nice garage.

If you need any cushions, let me know. I ordered a new mounting kit (twisted off a few bolts) and the cushions came with it. I used the new ones and have a few originals left. I tried to send my self an email and it did not work. I am a woodworker and I am just starting to learn about computers. (I guess you can teach old dogs new tricks) I think I have the problem fixed so if you get a chance, try again and we will see what happens.

Normally it was stamped twice, with the second stamp about 12" forward of the one in the seat area; the "egg-stamper" tool had to cycle twice to re-index to the next number.

Thanks for the compliment!

Many of the people that I cruse (cruse nights) with think I am crazy for spending as much time on the cars as I do. It just a great feeling finding these old Corvettes and then putting them back in original condition. I just wish I had the knowledge of John Z, John McGraw, your self or many of the other members. Maybe a few more Corvettes and they will let me clean their tools.

Thanks!
