62 vette been sitting cranks no spark new wires cap points condensor coil
Although you've stated that there's no spark, a weak spark can cause the same problems. Here's a couple of items to check that have caused me a "no fire" situation with points distributor in the past:
1. Make sure the distributor gear is fully engaged/seated and that the rotor is turning clockwise. Make sure that the initial timing is correct and that the distributor is 'locked" in position. (A loose hold-down clamp will allow the distributor to rotate to full retard during cranking.)
2. Check the points gap and crank the engine with the cap off to ensure the points are opening and closing. (Had a situation where a mounting screw back out on the points after routine maintenance such that the points plate moved, but not the points arm.)
3. Double-check your wiring for the distributor, coil, and ballast resistor. (Had a case where the lead "fell" off the ballast resistor. The engine would crank and fire, but die when the ignition key was released from the cranking position. You didn't state that this was the problem; however, it's worth a check.)
4. If the wiring is correct and the contacts are all clean and tight, use a multimeter to ensure that you're getting continuity on the wires from the coil to the distributor and that the cranking voltage to the coil is correct (full battery voltage).
5. Check for a loose coil high tension wire not making contact either in the coil or distributor cap. Do the same for each spark plug wire. (Wouldn't hurt to verify that the spark plug wires are mounted in the cap in the correct firing order either. Been fooled by that at least once.

6. If you bought the new cap and rotor together, this shouldn't be a problem; but check the gap between the rotor end and the cap's internal inserts. (This was a problem in the mid-70's when the gaps were opened to cut down on radio interference.)
7. If your ignition system has been modified by the addition of an aftermarket component, e.g., MSD 6AL box, try disconnecting that component to see if the engine will fire just using the stock components.
Hope this helps! Good luck in resolving the problem.
