Hello, folks,

I am in the process of replacing the heater box assembly in my 63.

When I originally removed the core, there was some kind of sealant (dumdum maybe) between the heater core mounting frame and the heater box. I was hardened and somewhat difficult to remove. I'm pretty sure Bubba might have been there years ago, so I'm not sure if that sealant belongs there.

Should there be sealant there? If so, what kind should I use?

Thanks in advance!

The heater core was my last winter project on the 66.

I bought a gasket rebuild kit from Dr. Rebuild along with a new heter core and outer box assembly from Long Island Corvette Supply. If I remember correctly, the inner box assembly has a gray seal that gets sandwiched between firewall and core frame. That gray seal gets glued to the metal frame so it stays put during installation. I remember using a general multi purpose sealant found in any auto parts store.
