Hi
I don't know if everyone knows this yet, but American Hot Rod is starting this year with a 63 project.(this week)
Apparently Boyd's problems are that the guy wants it to be a show car, drag car and a daily driver.............what's wrong with that?
take care
Tom

Hi Tom,

Kinda sounds like your project......the perfect multi-purpose ride:D

Can't wait to see yours.........

Take care,
Brian

Tom, Thanks for the heads up on that program. Should be very interesting!

I used to like this show until they started "acting," and doing a poor job of it. They're trying to be the OCC of automobile restoration shows. It just doesn't work for me. I've seen them fire two guys recently, and last time I checked it looked like a 3rd was getting canned.....and it was so bogus it was pathetic. At least in my opinion.

Yes I agree. All the drama is contrived but I guess I am willing to tune it out and just watch for the good moments when they are actually working on the cars whether its an engine or paint, body work, metal fab, etc. I think they make Boyd's shop look like a three ring circus. I wouldn't want to bring my car there. I think the show will ruin his reputation as a serious craftsman.

that's how I watch the show. I try to ignore the BS stuff and concentrate on what they are actually doing on the car itself.
Personally, I think the best guy they have is the one that runs the bodyshop. I forget his name at the moment but he is one of the few that doesn't usually get into the yelling and screaming matches and actually works hard on the car. I don't know anything myself about bodywork and paint but to me at least it looks like he does good quality work and actually cares about the level of quality he puts out.

He quit. :eyerole

Can you blame him? :eyerole

Well didn't Charlie just want to paint one of Foose's cars, and Boyd threw a fit? Can you really blame Charlie for going to Overhaulin? Look at Foose's designs, I think they far exceed Boyd's, and Foose actually works on the car. Boyd just checks in and yells at people. You know the work environment has to be better then Boyd's shop. I can't remember what was said, but someone on Overhaulin asked Charlie who he used to work for, and he said something to the affect of an unorganized body shop with a big smile on his face.

I surely wouldn't sit back while my car got shot through his shop in 3 days...

These shows are all drama..

Just once, I'd like to hear one of them say,
Hold on guys we have to do this right, even if we miss the deadline...

DEADLINE!!!!! :(

What's up with all these deadlines anyway...

Whenever I bring something to a shop,
It seems I'm at their mercy...

What do you mean you can't get to it this year :cry

CHARLIE HUTTON :cool

He went with Chip Foose; Boyd handled it like a child. :(

I truly hope that’s all an act by Boyd. If that is the real Boyd Coddington, I wouldn’t buy an anvil from him. And certainly would not work for him.

I hadn’t heard about Charlie. Good for him! He was the only one with any creative talent…and the only one with acting talent.

I have to wonder how long the “Overhauled” cars are back in the shop after the cameras and the gratuitous bimbo go home, just to make them right.

Now that we’ve started this discussion…one of my favorites is Stacy David’s “Trucks”. No drama, no deadlines, just fun and informative.
The one I like the best, is Alain de Cadenet’s “Victory by Design”. No annoying background music, no gratuitous bimbo, and you get to see the cars. I can’t wait to get the DVDs, I want to hear all that in surround sound.

Let me agree with the obvious and say this is in my opinion the best automotive series made. The quality of production, audio, video and of course automobiles is second to none. Alain de Cadenet certainly holds his own as well.
Great Program!!

From what I understand, according to people I know who also know Boyd, the shop really isn't run like that. ;)

We all know (or should know) that the producers stage that drama stuff -- it makes for good ratings! ;shrug

Next up: the Jerry Springer-style automotive show, where the participants go head-to-head, and all hell breaks loose!

America -- where people think. :eyerole

It was not a joke, Charlie posts a lot on the Overhaulin forum, and he used to post on the American hotrod one too. He said that what was exchanged was what really happened. It was not pre planed I guess according to him.
