63 on American Hot Rod

Ken,
Please excuse my exuberance… Of course we all know it is just TV, and I did knowingly overlook the fact that these shows are not about cars, they’re about people.

Jerry Springer…?? I like that! Paul Sr. vs FunkMaster Flex…
Wadaya think?

I'm watching it right now, and it's about driving me crazy. Why can't the producers just stay out of it and let it be a car show. I mean, you gotta know that was a setup to have Jo, Boyd's new wife, interupt the meeting to have him fix her shoe. That was just plain stupid.

And the fact that no one seems to be in direct discussion with Boyd about their misgivings about the project; Duane, Mike, Roy, the Swede... They all seem to agree in that the schedule's too tight, the customer's crazy, that Boyd's been smoking crack, yet wouldn't you think they'd voice their opinions with the boss rather than a camera. Such drama! :eyerole

Oh, and I think Paul Sr., judging by the size of his arms, would pulverize the Flex. :L

Mike at the beginning said in a way that this deadline was unrealistic and they would get a cobbled up car, and Boyd said "When is the last time we have had a car like that come out of here". I just think people don't want to hear Boyds big mouth go on, and on about how they can complete the build when he just sits up in his office. Then Boyd at the end of the show said he under estimated the time it would take to build this car. Has he never built a hot rod before that he has no clue how long it takes to build something?

How about 4 wheel drive and mud tires???

I liked the part yesterday where they stuff one of the workers inside a tire. ;LOL

Then they try to align a pair of original C2 doors to the body...nothing is gonna fit.:L

I like overhaulin but could do without the 20 minutes per episode of making prank calls to the owner. I would have to assume if you are an avid viewer you are watching it for the cars and and the awesome resto work they do and not to listen to the guy pretend he's a cop trying to find the owners car 30% of the show.

As far as Boyd and OCC goes I wish they'd take a Q from "Southern Steel" / "Milwakee Iron"
Those guys are about as laid back as you get and seem to respect each other.

Just my .02 cents

Mark ;)

In my experience with restorers and custom shops, they charge by the hour. Who is paying for these mistakes and antics by these childern? I hope the customer is not billed.

Well the reason they are having fitment issues with trim, doors, windows and such is that the 63 body is not an original vette body..it is a clone..was discussed there on the show...what a crock of crap!:eyerole

Best part of the show was when Roy and his gang painted those letters on and then had a little fun mooning the trains.;LOL

other than that ... too much drama for me

still looking for a decent car show to watch during these late winter days.

Good news is that Daytona is strating up, so ....... come on spring!

CHARLIE HUTTON :cool

He went with Chip Foose; Boyd handled it like a child. :(

Boyd was one of my heros coming up... The quality and artistry of the cars coming out of his shop were the standard to me of what hod rods were all about. I especially liked "Chezoom" for obvious reasons ;) . But after watching AHR, and especially the show where Charley tried to reason with Boyd, I lost all respect for the man. It's painfully obvious the real problem in the shop is the "manager" Duane. The man is a tinhorn dictator type (seen a lot of those in my time), and while some things are obviously scripted for "dramatic effect", the effect on shop morale is obvious to even Stevie Wonder. The effect I see is a megalomaniacal shop owner along with a tinhorn "straw boss" placing unrealistic goals squarely on the shoulders of the crew equaling mass burnout and eventual defection. Charley was a class act, and you could see he was more about quality than meeting a deadline. I think Boyd's shop will ultimately suffer more and more of a meltdown, due in no small part to the TV cameras present, and the "high jinks" associated with them. AHR is like a train wreck...you know it's horrific, but you're just compelled to watch it.

As to the clueless owner of the Vette clone.... I would have given him my "come to Jesus" talk I give a lot of clients with unrealistic expectations. It's not all about the money...

...Gratuitous Bimbo?

I truly hope that’s all an act by Boyd. If that is the real Boyd Coddington, I wouldn’t buy an anvil from him. And certainly would not work for him.

I hadn’t heard about Charlie. Good for him! He was the only one with any creative talent…and the only one with acting talent.

I have to wonder how long the “Overhauled” cars are back in the shop after the cameras and the gratuitous bimbo go home, just to make them right.

Now that we’ve started this discussion…one of my favorites is Stacy David’s “Trucks”. No drama, no deadlines, just fun and informative.
The one I like the best, is Alain de Cadenet’s “Victory by Design”. No annoying background music, no gratuitous bimbo, and you get to see the cars. I can’t wait to get the DVDs, I want to hear all that in surround sound.

Hold on now, let's not underestimate the value of a gratuitous bimbo
...please? :D

Well spoken, Robert! :upthumbs
