63 wheel cover bars

I did see a set on ebay about a month ago but you rarely see a good set. Have you considered repops. They are reasonably priced.

Wanted to try to use all original rather than the reproductions.

I've talked to some of the people on Ebay who posted some very nice wheel covers. They had cobbled together nice wheel covers using bars from many donor wheel covers. Hopefully there's still a few good bars out there.

While waiting for the spring swap meet season to start I'm experimenting with repairing bars using Caswell's pot metal filler and a micro torch. Once successful in removing and filling the pits will try replating using a Caswell copper/nickel/chrome plating kit. Gives me something to work on until spring.

There are people out there that replate pot metal but unless the car is NCRS quality you'd be better off with reproductions.

Our 63 was judged Top Flight on the regional level by a previous owner in 1997 after he borrowed rims, tires, wheel covers and seat belts for judging. I've tracked down 5 correct rims, wheel covers and all the correct seat belt components including the red 3 equal band webbing (still need to have them sewn) leaving the wheel cover bars as the last original parts needed. The hard to find rims and the wheel covers I have were all purchased through posting my needs here on CAC.

Looking to have the car Flight Judged in our name this spring if everything comes together. Studying the lastest Judging Manual, the Judging Sheets from the previous owner and the car 's current condition we can probably afford to burn some points and use the pitted originals and still do okay.

Impala,

you going to try and do the National at Windsor? Would be a fairly easy drive for you. I have my 1963 Z06 registered for the National.

Hello Rick,

The current plan is to be judged at the Wisconsin Chapter Meet at Ho-Chunk casino in Wisconsin Dells June 12 & 13 then be judged at the North Central regional in Rochester, MN on June 24 thru 26. Maybe next year for a National judging.

Might make plans to visit customers in the Windsor area around Nationals time. I'll stay in touch. I really would like to see your 63 ZO6 and buy you a couple of drinks in appreciation for the rims :beer .
