Background: As hard as this is to do, I must sell my 1964 Air Coupe (that I've had since 1982) to pay for castrosphic medical bills that I recently received (and to think 3 weeks ago I had planned on going to Carlisle). I truly don't have any idea what its worth, so to get an idea I plan on placing it on Ebay with an extremely high reserve (so it don't sell) just to get an idea of what it goes for. I know we have all laughed at the prices some people are paying for Midyears on Ebay, and this car is in good/great shape and far from the junk that was posted before.
Status: Right now I have started to do a body off restro. The engine and Tranny are removed, the AC unit is remove and all except one body mount bolts are removed. Now my question: Is it better to sell this car as a complete unit? or is it better to sell it piece parts (ie engine, tranny, body, frame, AC unit)?
Secondly, I have already bought the complete interior, steering box, steering column, electrical system, and it has used knockoffs (repos), is it better to sell them with the car or sell them seperate?
Lastly, I know all of you guys are Corvette lover and would hate to see something like a Corvette piece out, but please look it at my side, I want to get the best price for it for my families sake. Again, I not trying to sell it now, because I don't know what its worth... Just need answers.... Thanks Again...

If it's a numbers matching car then it's probably worth more as a single unit (with the restoration parts sold separately.)

If it's a NOM car, then parting it out will probably - but not certainly - net the most money.

Best of luck and I hope everything works out okay.

First of all, I'm dismayed to hear of your situation. I hope you, or whomever in your family is ill, is on the road to recovery.

As for your questions about the car, I'm inclined to believe that a clean, well-maintained complete car can still be worth more than the sum of its parts. Keep in mind that a car sale involves only one transaction, whereas parts sales involve a great number of transactions and shipping complexities.

You are in the unfortunate situation of having the car partly disassembled at the worst possible time.

I'm looking forward to the thoughts of others here.

All the best.

I would suggest putting as much of the car together as possible. With out investing another penny in it,
Sorry for your problem.

If you wer local I would voulenteer some time to help you assemble it.

I would not list it on ebay with a higher then needed reserve,Hopefully we can get you close to price and you can list it and sell it.

an auction normally runs a week, then another week to get paid.

Good Luck

Would it be possible to work out a payment plan with your creditor? I'd exhaust all options before taking a loss on a project car.

I'm still working with the creditors... As far as funds, there is no more debts being posted since they have passed away. I realise I could file bankruptcy, heck people do it every day, but I'm not one of those people. I have a debt, and I the ability to pay it off. Its only $144.000 and I figure about 9 years.
What I can't see is having a car in my garage that will cost more money to put back together, when I could sell it. And hopefully at another time, buy another one. Just wanted to get you guys thoughts... Again, I am waiting until the last possible moment to sell her, and just wanted a game plan well thought out prior to making any rash decisions. Lastly, when I said before to sell it together, I ment, all parts would go along with it, but it would still be disassembled.
Thanks

Drop me an e-mail with your phone # or contact info. Maybe we can do something to help you out with the sale/prep/assembly of the car.
