Rick, my apologies for taking your thunder! But you know we are on your side and respect your decision greatly.

no apologies necessary! I still hope that we will see some changes in the way the stamp pad, etc. are viewed by the NCRS and Bloomington - we all KNOW that there are MANY Vettes out there that DO NOT have the ORIGINAL MOTOR and passed both august bodies "strict" judging guidelines and were CERTIFIED to be original! We all KNOW what these certifications mean to someone when they get ready to sell said vehicles also. RANT OFF and back to lurking

gee Rick, you don't mean that NCRS and Bloomington would certify a car to be original without a true and proper original block do you?
Such as a 1967 L-88 of which only 20 were ever made (and god knows how many actually truely survived) but only 240 certified and documented originals from these organizations!
;LOL :eyerole

Nah, Corvette people wouldn't do something like that. Everyone is in this for the love of the cars, not to worry about making money by faking up a car.

I laughed at that Barry, being an Ole Fart who Has been a Hot Rodder from day one I am supprised there are any unmodified cars out there. I bought a 60 back in 1967 (3rd owner) it already had a 327 in it and I had three different engines in it in a 3 year span. I had several friends who had Vettes and None were stock including a 65 396 -425 with 4.56 rear and side pipes (he ran dual quads and flared fenders with aftermarket wheels)

Hi Boss

I realize that "back in the day" modifying these cars was probably more normal than leaving them stock but to me that's what makes a car with a true original motor that much more of a treasure. There is nothing at all wrong with NOM cars but the current market places a premium on cars with "numbers matching".
My point was simply that numbers matching doesn't really tell the whole story and in my opinion that it should include meaning the original block as well, not a restamp. Unfortunately, because of market resale conditions so many people now will take a NOM car, have the block restamped and claim it as a correct #'s matching ORIGINAL motor car. To me this is "faking" a car and is fraud.

As for my own car, as far as I can tell, it IS the original motor in there and it's all correct #'s matching, but since I don't do NCRS judging, if I were to get another midyear in the future I wouldn't place the same importance on that as I did when I was looking for this car. I've since learned that if you are really only getting the cars for enjoyment and driving and not NCRS it really doesn't make much of a difference if it's #'s matching or not - except maybe on the much more valuble BB hi-HP cars like the 427/435's and i'd guess most of those really are restamps!
In fact, at times I almost wish mine wasn't an original motor car so I wouldn't worry about it so much. I'm actually considering in a year or so pulling the original motor and tranny out and storing them to preserve them in case I ever wanted to sell the car and than droppingin a crate motor and 5-sp tranny.

Drop in a ZZ4 with a TKO 5-speed and "drive it like you stole it " as rowdy 1 says :D my 76 has a TKO and a 383 and it is much more fun to drive then when it was stock.

to me a car like discribed in this thread would be a good driver altho the hot rodder in me would have a 700R4 and a bigger engine in it in a heartbeat:L

yeah, that's about what I was thinking of although since i'm not ready to do it yet I haven't looked at all the options.

A BB crate would be really cool but more than I would need and would want to spend I'm sure and compared to my fully stock 327/365 a "built" SB crate would give me LOTS more power I'm sure

with the price of gas a LS1 would be the ticket, you would have one of a handfull of midyears that gets 30 mpg

well, it's about two years down the road until I would do anything if at all so no point me making any decisions now
LOL
