I have an opportunity to purchase a 327/365hp complete block w/heads. No manifold or carb. Price seems very reasonable...$800. It needs rebuilding. My 65 vette has a 68 block with 66 heads & manifold. I'd like to eventually install the correct engine, that's why I'm entertaining the purchase of this engine. The problem is that the engine date falls a couple of months after the production date of my car. I don't really plan on competing the car but would like it to be as authentic as possible. What are your thoughts? Would this difference result in no $value added? Should I be patient and continue searching?

Engine block: 3782870/F1218HH/K254, heads: 3782461/L104

VIN: 194675S102087

Buy and hold. Just like investing. Would the heads appear correct with the valve covers on? Most of the rotating assembly could be reconditioned. You would just need to swap for a bare block with the right dates. A bare block may be easier to find than a complete engine and your close dated bare block would have strong trade value. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.

Your cars birthdate is right around Nov. 10th, 1964 . For adding best value to your car... I would look for something built within six months prior to K3. ..ED

Just a question,is the Vin# you listed for your car or is it the Vin# on the engine ID pad? Either way for 800.00$ i would snap it up in a heart beat, original mid-year Corvette engines or blocks are hard to find. My 65 roadster is Vin #15703,had a NOM 327CI engine that ran just fine, but in the restoration i wanted the engine to be as original as i could get it,i found mine in Hemmings, the 365HP engine out of car #9917,the engine ID pad read 5109917 F0208HH,i have about 3,500.00$ in the engine and i do not for one second regret buying it. I do not think you can go wrong with an original 65 Corvette engine for 800.00$,one final comment, many years ago i had the chance to by the block from 65 car #8810,it was the 350HP as it had the HT code, the price 300.00$,that was a mistake. Go for it.

I would purchase the motor and then advertize a swap for something in your date range.

I agree with wiscane - skip this offer - there are 100s of blocks out there with good dates for the same money. Need a rebuilt - try Engines Limited in Oshkosh WI

proper casting date is only an issue if you plan on re-stamping the pad (and hopefully you would only be doing this because you plan on competing in NCRS judging) - OTHERWISE it will be a N.O.M. no matter how you slice it, and if that is known, perhaps because the mis-match VIN appears on the stamp pad, the issue of the casting date of the block will really not be an issue. Assuming you are in the land of NOM, I guess I would most prefer an engine block and heads correct for my model year (so I vote to buy the L76 block and heads), and build it to correct 65 L76 (in your case) specs - if for no other reason, it is nice to have some parameters to be guided by when you are trying to decide, for instance, how to set up the belts and pulleys, what style air cleaner, which intake manifold should you be looking for, casting flaw or no casting flaw on the valve covers, how to route the fuel lines and which parts to be looking for, etc etc. All just MHO
