Thought this was going to be a no brainer but you know how that goes.. I'm switching out the 2" manifolds for 2 1/2 manifolds. Well as this is a 66 the alt is on the drivers side. I don't want to hack up my new engine harness to move the alt to the pass side as on the 65's.. So who has done this and what bracket did you use for the lower alt mount. I was thinking to use a "F" bracket as what I have seen for use with headers but I don't know if this is going to work. Thanks in advance.. Dave..

Here is what I thought I was going to use but I don't know if it will work... I was thinking bracket A which is a F bracket...

I just changed mine over to 2 1/2" Ram Horn. I used the factory mount on the drivers side manifold , just like the 2" size.

I found mine on E-bay.

The 2 1/2 manifolds that I have do not have the mounts the same way as the 2" it comes out straight instead of bolting straight.

The '65 cars with air conditioning mounted the alternator on the driver's side. I'd check Long Island Corvette for the pieces necessary for this installation.

Ron I think that this is the bracket but this is also what I currently have however it will not work with the current GM production manifolds.

This is the correct pass side mount I wish that I could just turn it over but the mount holes are different..

I believe you're right, I was thinking of using the bracket with a correct '65 type manifold. :)

I was hoping I would be wrong but you know how that goes. So there was a different 2 1/2 manifold back way back when but now they only produce the one that I have now. So anyone that does this swap to have the 2 1/2 manifolds and pipes will have to contend with the same problem. Well at least now there will be a thread on this now. I was really surprised that this had not been covered before.. Dave..

Check out Ebay # 7931104630 . I think this is a 2 1/2" with the correct mount.

Nope, that's not the correct manifold for a mid-year Corvette. The exhaust connection angles toward the rear, doesn't go straight down as does the Corvette manifold.

:(

the suggestion to source the "correct for 65 SHP with air" is a good one, they set up my 65 L76 came with (it had a VA system on it, since removed) had placed the alt on the d-side, and they did not simply use the alt bracket for the p-side, I think it was just what has been suggested, some sort of oem bracket for a d-side alt application. I sent it (the bracket) to the new owner of the VA system, I wish I had it now to tell you what it looked like.

Thanks guys I picked up a Mr.Gasket today and it looks just like the "A" bracket and my good buddy Bill used this same setup on a car... Bill I know you're reading this. It was good talking to you today. I thought this was the way to go on this but was looking to see what others had done. I'm really surprised others haven't had to clear this simple problem. Am I the only one recently to change from 2" to 2.5" manifolds and pipes. I suppose it's a small gain to be had converting but I like to have as much HP as I can on the road and at the strip.

I know I ran well at the strip at 13.7 @ 99 mph but can't wait to try these and my carb being tuned..Hoping for low 13's.. Wish me luck... Dave..

I'm sure you already know that you can go to 2 1/2" exhaust pipes on the '66 without changing the exhaust manifold. The 2 1/2" exhaust pipes on the '66, unlike the earlier cars as I remember, has a transition at the manifold from 2" to 2 1/2" in the exhaust pipes. Given the short run that the manifold makes from the head to the exhaust pipe, there's not much difference in restriction between the two different manifold sizes. Most of your performance gain would be in the length of pipe from the manifold to the rear exhaust exit.

Just info for thought . . . .
