I seem to have the worst luck when ordering parts.
I ordered a 66 hubcap spinner kit (spinners, spacers, retainers and screws) in order to freshen up my hubcaps from Corvette Central. Lets leave out the part that I ordered them back in October and just got them (or not).
I go to screw the spinners on the hubcap and the screws are real tight going in. So tight that one broke in the spinner .....%$&^%$@##. There is no way that these screws are going to fit in the spinner unless the holes in the spinners are going to be tapped to a larger diameter. I called Corvette Central and talked to a tech guy...."let me check the rest of the inventory and get back to you this afternoon".....tick tock................. (Or not) **&^%$#@$^
Went to home depot and the closest thing I got to fixing the problem short of tapping the spinner is getting a smaller diameter screw. It goes in, but I am afraid that the screws are too small in diameter to do their job. They kind of wobble going in but eventually get tight all the way at the end. If I pull on them they go nowhere, but I feel kind of uneasy driving around like this wondering if I'm about to leave $260 in the gutter, or worst, flying on my vette.
So I ask this, should I go with the smaller diameter screws and add loctite, try to tap the spinner to the right size, or just return the parts to Corvette Central after some choice words?
Thanks, MC
