'67 Gauge Cluster Installation...

Today, I took out the gauge cluster in one piece and it was a little tough getting the escutcheon, which circles the steering column, separated from the cluster.

I dropped the whole thing off today at Corvette Specialties of Maryland to get all the gauges and clock rebuilt, refaced etc. They sure have a nice place. It should be ready in a month.

They told me it will be easier to reinstall the cluster if I take out the steering column mast jacket first, then install the cluster, it will go in a lot easier, with less risk of scratches. Previous to taking out the cluster, I read in the '67 Assembly Manual to take out the mast jacket first, but from the way they describe it, it sounds like a real PIA.

What is exactly involved in pulling the steering mast jacket and is it worth it or should I reinstall the cluster like I took it out? Thanks.

Dash Cluster

I did not remove my steering column but did loosen up the fasteners under the hood (rag-joint and clamp system at the fire wall) and dash and slid the column back and down. I then installed threaded rod in to the dash cluster mounting holes and kept the cluster approximately 5" from its mounting location. This made it very easy to install the bulb sockets and cables into the dash panel. Make sure you mark the spline rag joint location before disconnecting. This will make your steering wheel alignment easier.

Thanks for the pics did you see my cluster at Corvette Specialties, they have had for about 1 week!!!!

Now I know where my new wiring harness is supposed to go!! :s

Cowtown, I probably did see your cluster, but they all look alike to me. They told me they are very busy right now, so I guess that means they must do nice work.

Please purchase a work bench or something this picture below PAINS me see that on the car surface and what looks like a coffe cup ring stain.

I'd remove the column - much easier to install the (nicely and expen$ively restored) cluster with it out of the way. It's about a 20-minute job; step-by-step procedure is in the Chassis Service Manual.
