Today, I took out the gauge cluster in one piece and it was a little tough getting the escutcheon, which circles the steering column, separated from the cluster.
I dropped the whole thing off today at Corvette Specialties of Maryland to get all the gauges and clock rebuilt, refaced etc. They sure have a nice place. It should be ready in a month.
They told me it will be easier to reinstall the cluster if I take out the steering column mast jacket first, then install the cluster, it will go in a lot easier, with less risk of scratches. Previous to taking out the cluster, I read in the '67 Assembly Manual to take out the mast jacket first, but from the way they describe it, it sounds like a real PIA.
What is exactly involved in pulling the steering mast jacket and is it worth it or should I reinstall the cluster like I took it out? Thanks.
