Sorry, not yet, Mark.

If my life were any more complicated.........well.........you know. Let's just say that I'm meeting myself in corners. ;)

Maybe I'll bring some tools and do it at Craig's. At least I'll have some free time there. :rotfl

I've got all the tools you'll need ;)

Tools?

We don't need no stinking tools:r If Craig doesn't have the right tool, you don't need it. And.............as for you having "free" time there....:L ;LOL that's good Bob, very good.;LOL

Gheeeeeeeeeeeezzzz.. Rowdy must be feeling better... or Smoked some Crack....:L

Anyway I plan on trying it maybe this week end. I'll keep you posted. And if it works out we can Get F up at Craigs and change yours over..:L

Mark I did not forget you but with the frigid weather I was running all week end with service calls..

I have my temp sender for the fan in my drivers side head, any time the key is on and the heads get hot it turns on the fan

What happens is the fan would run for a 4 hours after the car is shut off because the heads just have a heat soak in them and with the fan blowwing on the radiator it just never cools down the heads.

Now I just turn off the ignition switch and the fans go off with it.

But when the motor is running and your cruzing do the fans shut down. In other words do they cyle on and off as the motor heats up...and then do they shut down as the fans cool the coolant? Are you running the dual Dewitts Spal fan rad like we are?

The fans should be hooked up to the ignition circuit to shut down when the key is off.

Mark regaurdless of the outdoor tempture I have never heard them go off except when the key goes off.

This is on my 62 and I have a single spaul fan in it

There are 2 Spal temp sendors one is an ON @ 195* OFF @ 175* The other is an ON @ 185* OFF @ 165*

Which one are you using? If you are using the OFF @165* Your Rad Might not be cooling enough to get it down that far. What Mfg Rad are you using?
And what Temp is the Thermostat?

Are you using The DeWitts Harrison Type... Like this one?

Mark mine is on at 195 off at 175.

Allthough the car runs cool on the gauges. The temp sender for the gauges is located in the intake manifold water passage on the driver side of the manifold. The gauges are acurate from a infa-red thermometer reading of the water passage. The gauge will be only reading 160 and the fan will come on and stay on,

I think it just that the censor for the fan is so close to in the heads to the headers and exchaust port that its catching that radeant heat from them,

Mark this is the excact loaction I have the censor, I have a be cool radiator with the same fan as you have pictured (noisey aint it)

Yeah that Spal dual Fan is loud but I can't here it when the motors running.

So you have a Spal fans and have your sender in the head and are having the same problem that Heaven and I are having.

I'm trying to work this out and have been emailing Bill Bradley back and forth. Bill has stated that the fans won't turn off with the sender in the head. And your case seems to prove that out.

Haven and I have are senders in the Thermo housing and were also having the same problem.

SO....WTF...!!! ... What Now....????? I Gotta think about this some more..:mad

You know to me its simple. The fans only cool the water off in the radiator that is sitting in front of the fans. I know its also a fact that heat always has to go to an absence of heat but it would take an enternity for this migration to happen by it self.

So 2 choices

1-live with what we have witch I dont see as a problem because it the same thing that happens when a car with a regular fan connected to the water pump acts, As soon as the car goes off the fan goes off. and the motor just sits there with its hot soak

2- Install an electric water pump that is fired from a Double throw single pole relay that the relay with also fire up the fans all controlled by the temp sender in the head. At this point we would cool the motor down because we are circulating the water also .

I just dont see it as a problem when my key goes off so does the fan.

I refuse to give up on this one.... I will figure a way to make these suckers go off when I'm jolten down the Interstate with out having to flip my off switch.

I just need to sit back and drink some moose pee...Maybe It'll come to me in a dream...........:D

Yeah, somethin'll come to you in a dream, alright, but it'll probably be a charging moose rather than a fan answer. ;LOL
