I purchased a new fuel tank and assorted parts for my 68 coupe and am not having any luck getting it installed back into the car. When removing the old tank, I almost had to use a pry bar to get it out and now it seems impossible to get the new tank in without destroying it. Any suggestions as to why it is so tight trying to get it installed? Has anyone else run into this problem on a 68? Any suggestions would be appreciated. :confused

I found this on another thread.

loop a rope around the tank and bring it up through the filler hole. I took a broom handle, got the rope nice and tight and secured the rope to the broom handle. I laid an old winter coat on the rear deck to keep the paint from getting scratched. Also, when reinstalling the straps, do not tighten them all the way down just yet. Bolt them up, but then focus on installing the rear crossbar support. The loosely installed straps will allow you to position the crossbar much easier! I also used small vicegrips to hold the crossbar to the frame and gave me two free hands to bolt that up...

Hope this helps.

cheers

Thanks
