69 rear end confused??? help me

I have bought a 69 vette my 1st one.. i called to get parts and was told it has to be a special build vette for the numbers all match my vin to car but rear end has a # that they cant explain to me what the numbers mean...hopefully you guys can help me... the numbers are on main housing on rear end on bottom of it and are right next to where springs mount to rear end... they are as follows......2 cam 10 9 69.... i was told that they cant find that number in chevy books anywhere....if you can help me i would love to restore it to original condition but want to be sure im going about it the right way...car does have several options on it that are rare i believe....one of which i talked with owner i tracked him down ....who had it 20 years ago and he said he had tranny checked and it was m22 tranny....engine i had checked and found out compression was 12 to 1 ( guy who did it is very good with engines) and he said he also had 60 pnds oil pressure at an idle... here is where it gets confusing....engine is a 350/350 and car had racing belts mounted on driver side ( they were simpson belts that are old no shoulder harness just reg lap setup ) car has orig side mounted pipes that are louder then normal ( old owner told me that said he got stopped several times for loud pipes ) anyways i am told not to do anything to it until they get it checked out and get history on car but they cant find anything on that rear end...any help ???
 
Seems that you have a '70 rear end. Translates as follows:
2- 2nd shift. CAM- 3:36 posi. 10 9 69- Oct. 9,1969

The '69 was built through Dec 69, so an Oct 69 rear would be okay for a late build 69.

Ah, I was looking strictly at the code, which for '69 was 2 letter, and '70 was 3 letter. Then of course the date seemed logical. It would be interesting to know his serial #. Being an early '70 rear end would explain why they can't find anything under '69 data for it.

Thanks for the welcome and the information. It sounds to me then like it is nothing special about the car ( Besides its a vette hehe) so hopefully i can go to work on it i got it ready to paint ( except for a few small nicks to fill ) Car is in great shape and engine is in good shape so hopfully i can restore it back without any probs. oh ya here is the vin # for ya 194379S733317 Again thanks for the welcome and the info on car

That would have your car rolling off the line on (or about) Friday, Oct. 24 1969. Sounds like a neat car. By all means find out all you can about it! My '66 had racing belt brackets still bolted in on the drivers side when I got it. After tracing the owner history, it turns out it was raced in B-Production in the SCCA for the first three years of it's life. It still has the cast iron scattershield on it from it's racing days!
Good luck with the work you are doing on your car. Post some pics when you can. Someday I'll get with the program, for now all I've got is a sig pic:
 
Theres another Question they asked me about a scattershield if it was on the car...i hate to sound like an idiot lol...but can you describe what it looks like...and i love that pic it's a beautiful car...they told me it was a peice that was by clutch sheild that stopped peices from entering firewall by driver if clutch blew up it would'nt come thru and hurt him...also clutch they asked me to measure clutch and it is 11 inches across....not sure what that means...i am new to vettes..always loved them but never could afford to do it right till now..and i am excited about getting car ready but want to do it right...and thank you for info i get excited everytime i learn something about this car

There is other things that they asked me to look for that would prove that it has raced and i found others ( like evidence that a roll cage had been on car) and i found Square patches on frame where it had what looked like something cut off car and metal welded back in return right in front of the front body bolts...so it points to it but i want to be sure...im not out to sell it by any means.....something about the 69 vette i always loved and now that i have one im not about to get rid of it....by the way car was painted orig burnt orange is what they told me paint code was and red interior..and also on driver side headlight cover is the word... Corvette in some type of letters. when i got car guy told me it was factory but i dont know i have traced the car back 20 years and talked to that owner about the letters on the headlights and he said it was on car from factory too he is in ohio which is i believe where car was orig sold ...and i am very happy that i found a place to ask these questions and get honest answers i was afraid that this other company was just looking for a way to make money at this since i am very new to vettes...anyways again thank you all for the sharing of know how and history i am sure i will have a lot of questions in the future
 
Also i should say owner from ohio said it was monoco orange and they are wrong...speedo has up to 160 on it too. it has a hurst shifter close ratio and the owner in ohio said he had tranny checked and he assured me that is was the m22 rock crusher.. but i understand that they are very rare and whoever checked it out made the common mistake of the m21 instead of m22
 
I'd say it's the original axle (or carrier, at least); the 3.36 Posi axle through most of '69 was "AM", but when 1969 production continued beyond the normal August model change to December, the new 3-character axle codes began to be used, including the "CAM" 3.36 Posi - this is well-documented.

May I caution you to slow down a bit? As said, likely you have just another Corvette. But you do want to assure yourself that you do not have a REAL racecar. Cars with a heritage can command a LOT of money and removing signs of that heritage (such as the lettering on the headlights) removes value as well as history. The reason they worth so much is that only with a race history can the enter Vintage racing events. Do some more research. You want to know about that first 10 years.

OK Looks like it gets more interesting as it goes....


I tracked down the owner that had the car in the early 80s. he said car did have the same simpson seat belts that are in it now that they were in it when he got it. he also knows the owner that had it before him and that owner did have a good record ( at that time anyways) of all the work he had done to the car in the entire time he owned it. said he remembered him saying it was 1700.00 dollars that he had spent back thru the 70s or early 80s. i do have pics of the frame that shows where there was welding or repair done on it or maybe this is a common wear prob that i just dont know about. anyways ill try to post a pic and see if maybe it is a common area that wears sooner then other areas. it still looks like i got a lot of work to do on the car. its good to see a site where there is so much know how available thru people who have researched this before ....lol its a lotta work just to research one ...past owner said he also will have the previous owner contact me he works with him so it will be easy.
 
ooops sorry here is the pic that they said was frame repair from a roll cage being removed this is on both sides in exact same position. the right one ( passenger side) is in a bit deeper and easier to see on pics so i tried to post that one
