1966,and a 1962 thats almost complete
Well I was shopping for a new alternator on ebay for the longest time and had no luck.None of the cores I was seeing had the correct date codes and were going for real high prices,I had seen a couple of alternators with a 96 DEEPLY punched in the case.I had contacted the sellers and one had replied and exspained That he had heard from others that the ones that are deeply punched were actually made by gm and they left the 96 off and shipped them to canada for them to complete them.So when they were complete all they had to do was punch in the last 2 digits and because they only punched in 2 digits it set in deeper.Anybody else ever here this? I was also told that the deepley punched ones are NO GOOD for cars going for NCRS judging.

I still have alternators saved as a search on ebay And I am suprised at how many deeply puched 96 alternators I see and how much they sell for and wonder if there is any truth to this I feel sorry for the buyers who are spending a fortune for a core and then lose points because it the wrong one

I finally got my alternator from ken bruno motor sports out of upstate new york and it was PERFECT

Real "696" alternators are very hard to find. If you don't mind me asking what did you have to part with for it?

What is the part number and date code that you need?

I got a 63amp alternator for my BB by going to the auto parts stores and opening all the boxes for a year or so. Got a rebuilt with the right number and date for $29.95 - wrong doide markings, but it's nice and clean.

The 696's (42-amp, only used on '65-'68 cars with transistor ignition without A/C) are VERY rare, and many have been "created"; no such thing as "Canadian-completed" Delco alternators with "deeply-punched" digits (except on eBay) :eyerole

SKYMAN WELCOME TO THE FORUM

I temporaryly misplaced the recipt.I will check tomorow in my desk. I thought I paid 300.00 to 400.00 for it including the rebuild with the correct fan(no pulley included because I had a correct pully allready)and the rebuild included dated diodes.I was going to go junking for one (2 hour drive to a junk yard)and had put a post up on the ncrs website to find out what other cars had them in it.and one of the fellows there recomened ken bruno motor sports.I seen his add several times in hemmining and never bothered to call him.I called exspained what I needed.I remember him quoting the price and then I was thinking ok thats the price of the core now how much for the rebuild,So instead of saying that I just asked him to say the prices again so I could right it down I wrote as he spoke and at the end of the confersation I ordered the unit from him.

I had to mail him a money order to pay in full first so I was a little nervous(absolutley the first time I ever did that in my life) but in talking with the guys I was much more at ease and figured if he did not deliver on the goods I would just visit him and ask for my money back.Needless to say he exspained that he would be away on a trip but said I would have my alternator by a certain day and he delivered the goods just as promised. And let me tell you it was a work of art! PERFECT!At the time 696 cores close to my date were selling at around 400.00.I also just lost an auction to a fellow by $1.00 and I was really getting anoyed that I could not find one.I just remember thinking how cheap his was compared to the core prices,Also that I was on john pirkles list for a 696 alternator for well over a year and still had not found one.

Really John ? the way the guy described it.It made perfect sence to me.Watch the auctions and you see the deep punched alternators.I will do a search on completed auctions to see I can find another one to see how deep they are.
I will also post a picture of mine ITS BEUTIFULL.

Also thanks again john for the macneish lead ,He did a manifold and a bellhousing for me and they are also beutifull.

I may be becoming mentally ill because I just sit and stare at my reskinned parts think how great they look.

magic there are no more auto parts store like that by us no more.all them are becoming the chain store ones and give NO CUSTOMER SERVICE ANY MORE

I am talking about chain stores. A couple of ours will still let me wander around in their shelves looking for a molded radiator hose that fits or a starter with the right number and date. Try offering one of the parts counter people a $20 bounty for an alternator with the right numbers. Keep asking if they found one yet. When they get tired of searching they will invite you to do it. Works for me.:s
