i bet they put in taller rear gears, like the 05 trucks, just to get the emissions, parts per mile, and the cafe up. these trans will have lower 1st gear to make up for the taller rear gear. it remains to be seen if the 0 to60 and drag strip times will improve because darg strip cars are quicker with 2 speed powerglides than with 3 or 4 speed auto trans. it takes HP to turn all those extra parts weight in the trans. remember that GM did not use a dual mass flywheel/clutch set up in the C-6 because it would have slowed the 0-60 time by .2 of a second. the present 6 speed manual in the corvette is a 4 speed with 2 overdrives for milage and emissions. unless you have a very narrow power band in a engine the close ratio trans gearing is no advantage because you lose time every time you shift.
.... I fear that in many cases it took the shock of foreign manufacturing to wake up US workers. When the wages are a tenth or less in the new location with no pollution control etc it's tough to say no. This is one reason the Kyoto accords are such a travesty. They exempted all the so called developing nations such as RED China. That country has virtually NO pollution control while we are forced to have HUGE costs added to our processes by the environmental radicals...
Amen. Limiting the ability for some countries to produce while others go on unencumbered is not an open market it is just more big government meddling in (a flimsy) disguise. A "free trade agreement" is an oxymoron. If there were free trade we would not need (government) agreements.
The 2005 STS is a rear-wheel drive vehicle with optional all-wheel drive. The 2006 STS-V has a supercharged 4.4L Northstar making 440hp. It will use the 6L80-E.

Info from SAE corroborates Aurora40 ... further SAE info purports there are 4 variants of the 6L80 ... remaining three planned for release over following three years .... Also the 6L80 is purported to have an on-board/integral control module. The STS-V variant purported to weigh 212 lbs wet, have fwd ratios: 4.02, 2.36, 1.53, 1.15, 0.85, 0.67 and max rated input tq 430 lb-ft. I understand C6 w/ base LS2 has auto option ... not a 6L80 yet, for now a 4L65.
JACK:gap
I think the new auto will be great. That is part of the reason I am waiting to get an '06 C6. Could you imagine a Zo6 with an auto. Wow. Could be possible, but unlikely.
