Can anyone tell if this is a LT1 by looking at the Tach or dash, claims to be a 1971 with A/C even though none were suppossed to have produced. I am guessing it is a 1971 or 72 body with the LT1 engine and vin tag attached.

Jerry,

The tach redline is a dead givaway that this car is/was not a LT1. The red line is around 5300 rpm. The LT1 being a solid lifter small block would have a red line around 6000 rpm.

Let's move this post to the LT1 Forum so the more knowledgable LT1 guys will see it. I'm sure they can tell you several ways to tell the difference.

Hi,
I was there today to look at that very car. It is not an LT-1. The motor was restamped. There are several areas that come into question. 1 - no docs to support the build info, 2 - the only part that matches is the block vin and there are clear arc shaped machine marks that are not origional, 3 - the console plate is missing, even though you can buy them anywere. As you noted the tach is also not correct for a 71 LT-1 car. The fellow told me it was a late 71 and that is why he beleives it to be correct, the only problem with that is the car was built i the 4th month of a 10 month production run. I told him it was restamped but he did not beleive me. I also noted the passenger side window pillar is almost gone due to rust. I feel sorry for the guy on e-bay that is going to get this car.
