My buddies 71 won't shot down. He had just replaced a dead battery and fired it up just fine then turned the key and nothing happened. Kept running. He's not a car guy so he was surprised after he dissconnected the battery and it kept running. His nieghbor came over and they took off the coil wire. It shut down. Put it all back together and it did the same thing. Any ideas..
Thanks Jim
ps its a 350 coupe

Seems it would have to be in the ignition switch. The switch is what turns off the power to the coil. Don't know what changing a battery would have to do with it. Coincidence?

Check the ign. switch.

Check the wiring related to the ign. sw.

If the car has a starter bypass for the ballast resistor, make sure that's not miswired.

I was talking with a buddy of mine about this and he told me he had a car do this to him before and it ended up being a shorted solenoid at the starter..maybe this might help.

Does the radio keep playing with the key off, if not I would look at the starter as stated above.
