Can anyone direct me to a good article on how to remove and re-install a big block from a '72 Corvette. In addition to the normal "how-to R&R a motor", I am looking for some insight, tips and "things to watch out for" that may be specific to a Corvette big block R&R.
Or, if you think it is too much of a hassle for a "weekend warrior" mechanic, let me know now before i regret it.
Thanks.
Jeff

You'll need a good cherry-picker (engine hoist), and a "tilter" or "leveler" really simplifies the task; bolt the end of each of the four chains down to the four corner intake manifold attachments, using Grade 8 bolts and hardened washers. As you pull it, you just turn the crank on the "tilter" to change the angle of the assembly - it's beneficial to have a helper, but I've done this many times myself as a one-man job - just takes longer. Remove the carb and distributor first. I do it from the side with the car on jackstands so I can get under it to clear things out of the way. Here's my hoist (1,000# capacity at full boom extension), with the "tilter" sitting at the bottom.
