Hi all,,
I'm in the middle of a engine rebuild that was going great till I cranked it over and had no power steering. I took the engine out about two months ago to send out for a rebuild. In the mean time I decided to change all the hoses and rebuild the pump while I had it all apart. when I put it all back together I filled the pump, ran it, and it sucked the fluid out. Put more fluid in, had the car on jacks moved the wheel left to right trying to bleed it, if iwas air bound and still no power steering...Not even any bubbles in the pump like it had air in it. After scratching my head I decided that maybe I screwed up the pump somehow so I bought another pump, put it in and same thing!! I've checked the hose connections ...there in the right spots. The killer is I never had any problems with the steering before this.HELP!!!!! As an added tidbit, while I had the engine out and using the "as long as it was easier to do now mentality", I also changed the front end components, from A arms to tie rod ends...You know how that goes. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...Jim

sounds like your air locked
I just replaced my pump try removing the return line to the pump eather turn your engine over or use a drill to turn the pump until the air is gone and only fluid comes out then put the return line back on .

Could it be that the control valve needs adjustment? If you removed/replaced the steering control valve and/or the power steering control cylinder, you may need to check the control valve balancing.

I could send the directions from my 1974 service manual, if that would help.

Thanks guys. Yea Bruce, I never touched the valve or cylinder so I don't think it's them, though I guess the controll valve could have hung up from sitting? Clar2001, I'll give your sugestion a try. Thanks again...Jim

Are you sure you have the new hoses routed/connected correctly? They cross over each other, and it's very easy to connect them backwards so the system doesn't work.
