My 76 L-48 "project" is looking more like a basket case everyday. The clutch ceased operating so I pulled the trans (Borg-Warner) 4 speed and found the clutch fork was broken. The clutch itself has a little life left, but I'll replace it. What I'm concerned about is that when I went to drain the gear oil, nothing came out. I have only had the car a short time and only put a few miles on it before I started tearing things apart. It seemed to shift and operate OK.

I see kits for sale to re-seal and re- bearing transmissions. How tough a job is it for someone with limited mechanical abilities (like me).

Thanks for any advice.

Hard to say if you could or couldn't do the job. I have and didn;t find them bad. I use a press and have the tools though.
You should go to www.5speeds.com and buy Paul's video on rebuilding a Muncie they are not too different. Then decide if you want to do the job. The BW St-10 front bearing is tricky to remove otherwise it's pretty close to the Muncie.
