Hi guys,

I just bought a 76 L48 with t350.

Its my first message here. So take it easy on me :)

Any advices about mods for suspension, brakes and differential?

Thank you.

1. Brakes---go with O-ring calipers from Vette Brakes and Products, when the time comes.

2. Suspension----It all depends on what you want out of the car. A good fresh rebuild is just fine, or you can go wild with full mono fiberglass springs from and rear from Vette Brakes & Products, or coil overs.

3. Differential----- first find out what you have now. Run the numbers, or just climb under it and spin the wheels around and count the drive shaft revolutions. Again, what do you want out of the car? A good cruiser, high speed, or quick red light to red light performance?

Welcome to CAC!

I think I want 350 - 400 hp with very good brakes and handling.
And I also want a manual transmission but this is the second stage...

The thing is, we have lots of japanese cars here... I hate these cars mate... Do you know what I am talking about?

Thanks for your reply Chris.

Okay, here is what I would do.

1. Get a high rise hood

2. Order a small/medium sized blower

3. Get a good carb to feed it, headers, and nice mufflers

4. Get the VB&P performance plus suspension package

5. Possibly leave the rear gear alone, as it may already be good to run with a good solid street blower.

A blower will also work great with your auto trans.

Down the road, when/if you eventually wear out the engine, you can then upgrade and shoot for 500-600 hp.

The Jap cars won't know what hit them when you pull up with the blower under the hood whinning and screaming. It will sound like a jet air plane going for lift off when you throttle into it.

You will have all of them wishing they had an American V8 shoehorned between their front drive axles.

Plus, a basic blower kit is cheaper than a long block replacement, and will yield more power, looks, and bragging rights.

LesPaul,
Welcome,
I installed a '95 LT1 engine/ 4L60E tranny which increased my '76 L48 coups performance as well as gas mileage.
Also installed a front mono leaf suspension, lowered the vette and 16" wheels/tires. Many more mods, see my web page.

Advise? Drive it for awhile and get to know the car. Then decide what direction you want to take it. The Vette is a very flexable car and can be molded to most anything you want. After you have driven it for awhile you can then decide if you favor drags, road raceing, GT touring, street cruiser, etc, etc. Then start looking at the suspension/brakes mods.

Good Luck

tom...

hi, this has nothing to do with your post but can you post a couple pics of you vette. preferrably front looking straight on and side view. thanks

I have a TPI 383 with a Tremec TKO 5 speed polygraphite suspension (it is FLAT and the roads are STRAIGHT where I live) so anything else is overkill. It runs real nice, the only thing missing out here is the rice

John,
That will be my pleasure to send my vetts photos...
but because i just bought it, i have to shoot some photos first.. :)

Thanks for our replies guys.

you know I am just trying to decide which way to go...

But it is definite that my vette will be a car which has competetion :) with japanese sport cars

By the way... sorry about my English... because English is not my main language...

How thirsty is your Vette currently and how hard was the swap? Is it possible to install an LT1 and a different transmission? The reason why I'm asking is because with those modern engines and transmissions everything is computerised. Bowtie Overdrives sells these cool TH200-4R transmissions.
