I thought that if the power window motor wnet out the window usually drops down...is this an old wives tale? So once I get the panel off and AI push the button I should get what? A clicking if the power window is out or?? Trying to get my cards aligned so when I get home I can check it all out. Thanks for anwering all the questions as well....
There's various reasons why the window would drop down. But a "broken p/w motor" isn't an always true statement. In fact, if only the motor goes bad, it will usually just seize up and will keep the window where ever it was when the motor froze.
A broken gear assembly or broken window track could cause the window to drop.
"A clicking sound" near the motor could be a couple different things, not limited to bad wiring that no longer delivers enough current, a seized or broken gear,
possibly bad clutch assm, failed solenoid
confused)
Once you get your eyes and ears on it, you should have a much better idea.
Ahh, yes! I just remembered a common trick that has been brought up various times in these hallowed halls!
Once the door panel is off, take a big rubber mallet and give the motor a couple good whacks towards the bottom. It works! It did for me! (I'll see if that thread is still around...)
