78 Auto won't start until cycle through gear selector

There have been a few times that the car doesn't do anything when I turn the ignition key. I cycle through the gear selector from park to 1st then back to park position, sometimes having to do it twice, then it starts just fine.

Anybody have any ideas. Gotta get THAT fixed before Carlisle! :W

There is a safety switch next to your gear selector that it should be in Park before you can start. I think you need to check that thing

Thought I'd check for any hints before I go into the center console. Hopefully there's an adjustment instead of a new part. Althought for peace of mind...

I agree with Peer81; it sounds like the neutral safety switch.
