79 A/c Charging Question

I had a problem recently when I tried to hook up the gages for charging the A/C on my 79 Vette.
When I tried to get the adapter on the low side(block attached to the compressor), I could not get it to fit because the bolt that is used for adjusting the belt tension is in the way. Is there a special adapter that I need , or am I not attaching the adapter/gage in the right place??

Any information on how to charge the system would be greatly appreciated.

ac adapter

yes there is a adapter, it is like a L that you screw on, I got mine at advance auto about 5 years ago, I just switch mine over to 134 a and they have that adapter also, think it was around five bucks, hope this helps you
