does anyone know if gm glued the front end down in front of the headlights in 81'? it seems that panel has popped up and is in the way of the headlights, anyone else experienced this?

to my knowledge gm did not glue the front end down in front of the headlites
is it possible that you may have some worn parts...eg bushings or guideson the headlite assemblies????

if you open the hood you can see a gap between the fiberglass (above the head lights) and the metal cross beam and it almost looks like the two were attached but I have no idea, I do know if you push down on it then the headlights will go up without rubbing or getting hung up and the hood lines up correctly. I know on the bumper vettes, 68-72 (73) you could somtimes see the tops of the rivets, sort of like bumps in the paint in front of the hood. Like I said, I dont know its gotten me stumped.

I believe the piece you are refering to,is in fact glued in somehow, but i dont know how or with what, sorry

My 80 has the same problem. When the headlights are up, the bracket rubs the paint off on the back side. Pushing the middle down maintains proper clearance, but how to make it stay down. I believe mine popped up when I got backed into. It must have been a good jolt because the paint spinted on the nose.

It might be worth a shot to go get this body adheasive called FUSOR most body supply houses carry it.Thake that and try to glue the metal strip back to the body that should fix it.
