81 outside door handle-how to remove?

Just got my 81 back from the paint shop (B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L !) . The ouside door handles were unbolted (2 bolts per side) and the handles were pulled up ~ 1 inch, taped off and painted over. They WERE NOT completely removed from the door during the painting.

Now that they are re-installed, the drivers door will not open when using the outside handle. When using the inside handle, the door opens.

Upon further inspection, I can see a rod attached to the bottom of the outside handle, the rod attaches with a double "S" turn , as part of the rod. The other end of this rod has a screwed knuckle where obviously any adjustment takes place for problems such as mine.

QUESTION: How does one completely remove the outside door handle, that is, how is this connecting rod, with the double "S" removed from the bottom of the handle unit.....??????

If you've never seen this, it sounds crazy- BUT, for those that have seen this arrangement, I bet it's a simple answer. PLEASE help me on this one...

You go to the paint shop with one problem, come home with a new skin and 3 more problems.... sshhhheeessss......

thanx in advance- Mike J.

I found how to do it- pulled the rod, made the adjustment- door opens as it should now. Anyone interested in how - to, drop me an email. Mike J.

Rod

Just one thing about that rod, if that rod is putting any presure on the latch when not being pushed it won't allow the door to unlock, ask me how I know this, lol. Everything will work fine until you lock the door then it won't unlock for anything until you take the presure off the latch. Just wanted to let you know this in case you run into the problem.
