Just curious - how costly is that chip and is it much of a job to install?

it's pretty expensive, all it is good for is the elimination of the lockup in lower 3 gears. I don't believe a 20Hp power gain and for all the 82's with messed up idle I've seen caused by the hypertech chip I wouldn't want one. Apparently GM has a chip that eliminates lockup too, don't know if it's still available.

If you really want to improve idle control quality AND eliminate the lockup in lower gears I advicse to get a ADS superchip and an 84 ECM. The ADS chip is not available for the 82 but the 84 ECM is plug & play. You will love the better idle control of the later ECM and it's a much smaller box too.

The chip was cheap (in my book) at $130. It feels like an extra 20hp, but like I said - it made me happy. The throttle is more responsive and it takes a lot less on the gas to get the tranny out of lock-up.

The ADS chip and the 84 ECM sounds interesting.

I'm told that Earnhardt used my 'signature-phrase' quite often, describing his dis-like for restrictor-plate racing.
In-fact, he used it in an interview the 'day-before', 17 Feb '01.....
