Would really like a little more rumble, thinking of gutting the cat and swapping mufflers. Is there any recommendations? not looking for anything to agressive.

I ditched the cat and had flowmaster 50's put on to replace factory. Sounds real good at take off and doesn't leave your ears ringing after a long drive but when you hit the gass at 65mph they will talk to you!
:cool!:

My Wife, also, owned an 82CE for a while and she had Flowmasters on it but we, also, still had the cat on it, too.

Great sound at idle and higher rpms.

Modest amount of 1700 rpm drone but, that car was geared so freakin' high that at highway speed, it wasn't even turning 1700 so there was no big problem with resonance.

Don't gut your cat, it will kill off some low end torque. I had Flowmaster 50's on mine before the side pipes and loved them.

If "gutting" the cat kills low end torque, then why put Flowmasters or sidepipes on?
Sheesh.

Gutting or removing the cat will not "kill off" low end. It certainly is illegal and will cause the car to flunk an emissions test or vehicle inspection, but it won't hurt torque output to any practical extent.

Uh, my 70 never had a cat (sheesh) and sounded great with the Flowmasters as well as the side pipes.

My 94 Z28 however had a bad cat that I gutted as a temporary fix and had a substantial loss of low end torque that returned when I put a new cat on it. I'm only speaking from my experience.

How does the experience with a 94 Camaro apply to an 82 Corvette?

I had the cat removed (reduced passenger side floor heat) the they created a 3" oval pipe to replace cat and mounted the 50's to the stock look. I even still run the air pump that they were able to tap into where it did on the cat..Like I said it sounds real good or just enough rumble for me!

Take the mufflers off. I removed my mufflers on my '82 when rust over took the inlet pipes and replaced them with 2 1/2", 90* exhaust pipes, they exit just behind the rear wheels, not very loud, quiet when idling but sound similar to the high price mufflers mentioned here when accelerating, very little "drone" and can listen to the radio with windows down. The cat is still on, using it to muffle the tone. Pulls strong all the way through. The state inspector didn't give it a second look. Try it, the cost is about $8.00. :upthumbs
