HELP i have a 82 crossfire that starts and runs forever {well almost} untill i turn it off. when i go to refire it, the fuelpump relay seems to destroy itself. i can put in a new one and it restarts and runs fine untill i cut it off and then it all happens again.i have lost 2 relay this way. i even tried to close the relay so the pump would have constant voltage but i only heard a click instead of the pump buzz. any help on this would be appreciated. thanks larry

Perhaps the fuel pump motor is wearing the commutator down to the point that the brushes are arcing or producing a back-EMF to fry the contacts on the relay. It could be loading the circuit down to the point that pump stalls on the second try. The pumps usually start when they are cold, but not after running for a while, if they are malfunctioning. That's what mine did.

It might not be the relay, but the pump itself, since the primary circuit of the coil is activating and you hear the click. But the pump is not running, and you don't hear the buzz-click after 2 seconds.

thanks pete for your imput. sorry about not getting back on this but i have been out of town due to a death in the family. i forgot to mention that i have replaced the fuel pump ,two months ago, and also pulled the pump again after the relay went bad but the pump checked out fined. i hooked it too 6 volt batteries in series and it pumped fuel for about ten feet. thanks larry
