why wont a 82 era 305/350 starter work on this car? secondly why are the bolt holes staggered as opposed to straight across on this car yet it has both bolt patterns?

Is this just due to it being a 168 tooth flywheel engine? The size of the starter is also noticeably different. much heavier too LOL .... Or did corvettes use specific starters not interchangeable with with other 305/350 engines? And if this is the case how could a 1990 700r4 clear a 168 tooth flywheel or were they 168 tooth as well?

1982

Probably because alot of new and different items were fitted in 82,no manuals available, only one engine 350 200hp available ,they introduced cross fire injection it was not fuel injection of the type used in 57 to65 rather it combined two injectors with computer command control system to achiece better economy, also hotter smaller newer exhaust pipes leading to the converter to increase efficency, also a new fuel metering system incuded a positive fuel cutoff to prevent engine run on, dieseling. 1982 was a year that chevrolet and alot of the industry had to make alot of changes, and some were for the worst not for the better.as for the starter my gues was the new 84 model was already made in december 82, and probably being used on it.
