84 700R4 Tranny FYI

I was talking online tonight with c4c5specialist and he gave me some insight as to why my 700R4 in my 84 would down shift to 3rd if I tried to go WOT in 4th. He told me that in 84 was a standard 700R4 with Corvette Calibration and that they always downshift to 3rd. 85 started GM allowed the Vette to stay in 4th at WOT. Says that I "may" be able to buy an 85 valve body and install it to get it to stay in 4th at WOT. I may try this route before I get a different tranny. Only valve bodies that will work if I understand him right are 85 as they added an extra valve body in 86. Glad he straightened that out for me. Saves me the headache of trying to figure out if my tranny is the correct one.

When I bought my 84 it had an 86 non Corvette th700r4 that did the same thing.

I s there something weird about my auto in my '84, as it works great....vette has 87k...trans rebuild at 78k...everything is fine...Ammco did the job out here in Southern CA.....

Ace it is possible that AAMCO when they rebuilt the trans they recalibrated the valve body. You can buy the part to do it for 49.00 so it is possible they just thru it in. Also possible you have a late 84 that maybe had the 85 valve body in it.
