I am considering putting a crate moter in my 1984. Is it possible to upgrade engine to higher output without changing computer. I plan to reuse crossfire intake. Just thought I would put a 4 bolt main with maybe little better overall performance features. Will this work or should I just replace with a direct replacement?

Any information?

any information would be helpful

Nearly all the 350 early performance parts will work and improve the crossfire considerably. The 202 valve heads and the 1970 LT1 camshaft for solids and the OEM GM 151 camshaft from the 327/350 HP Vettes for hydraulics.:D

Back in '86 , I put 64cc heads with 2.02 & 1.6 valves on my '82 crossfire. At that time , I also installed a Comp Hyd.cam with 220 degrees at .050. I did not have any computer problems , but did pop the covers off the idle screw compartments on the TB's. I had to play with idle RPM in gear. Had 3.73 gears and Hookers on it ,.and kept the O2 sensor.
The car ran great on 93 oct. - 14.30's at 92 mph in the 1/4.

I'm not sure if the '84 computers are the same as an '82 .

If you use a cam designed for computer car you should be all set. A simple free flow exhaust, cam change and fuel pump upgrade will get you deep into 14's. Also make sure when you reinstall the intake and cross fire that you have them synced right away so the engine runs optimumly. Keep us posted.
