It looks like its time to replace the power steering pump on my 84. I noticed fluid on the bottom of the block yesterday. Do the pumps go often?
I read about a cross reference manual stating you can ask, for example for a Monte Carlo pump in order not to get knocked over the head when asking for a pump for our Corvettes.
Enjoy the vette the today!

Are you sure its the pump? It could be a hose, the rack and pinion, the resivour could be cracked. After 20 years in the heat under the hood things become brittle. I would suggest cleaning the area well (go to one of those powerwasher car washes) If you do need the pump. autozone or your local parts stores has them for about 60 bucks.

Thank you, I'll clean under the hood this afternoon and check later this evening. Hopefully it will be just a hose.

Pump

I just changed my pump, hoses, and res tank on my 1984. I picked up the pump at advance auto for 60 bucks. the tank is still availble at GM. I think it was 22, but it was cracked and leaking. The only problems I had was removing the old pulley, and the hose at advance is not pre-formed and kinks. I don't know if GM still sells the oem hose but it would be better. I put a spring inside of the hose that i got at the local hardware store to solve the kinking prob. But a puller is needed to remove the pulley- good luck----- wal
