:cry

I have an 84 Vette I just bought. Love it. Now it won't start, no crank no nothing, have checked batt, fuel psi, door switches, cables. Any Ideas? Also there is some electrical device mounted on the firewall that appears to be missing part of its housing. There is an electrical circuit boad exposed. Can you tell me what this is?

Thanks all !

You have to have missed something.....are you sure about the battery??????
You missed something really simple.....
Let me know.....I also have an '84......great running....
tony

The circuit board is mounted right on the firewall.

If you are getting no crank what so ever, it could be the solenoid, starter motor, bad wiring near the solenoid (they fray and get loaded in time) Check the battery cables make sure they are clean. I suggest you remove the starter and have it checked. Pinpoint exactly where that exposed board is and I will let you know what it is...what is it near?

Oh I forgot to tell you, If you look right below the center of the driver's side wiper blade. It is right there.

Here is a picture of that cracked unit on the firewall.

Looks like the windshield wiper motor housing is that is cracked. Plastic cover over the electrical part

Yep that's the WS wiper motor.

The '84 does have an anti-theft system...just not ECM controlled. It could be causing a problem, they've been known to.

It may not be the same problem as yours, but last week I went out to my 84, unlocked the door, and tried to start it and no luck. The lights worked, the dash lit up, etc., but the starter wouldn't even click. After a few choice words and trying to figure out how to get home from work, I thought "The Anti-Theft" system! I jumped out of the car, reinserted my key in the drivers door and made sure that I twisted the key fully to unlock. Got back in the car and it started great. Apparently I had turned the key enough to unlock the lock, but not quite enough to make the door lock switch do its thing (adjustment problem?). At any rate, that might be one place for you to look.

Well that's the first referance I've seen to VATS 84BlueOnBlue. Do the 84's have the chip in the key or not guys?

I will check the door swiches, thanks. Also there is no chip in the ignition key.

Thanks again

ESL

Nope, no chip in the key. What they're talking about is a switch that's physically attached to the door lock that dis-arms the anti-theft system. If you turn the key just enough to unlock the door, but not quite enough to activate that switch, then the car won't start, and make all kinds of gawdawful noises if that part is still working.

update

ok I replaced the batt and overnight the volts went from 12.7 to 10.2 I got a set of jumper cables and viola it started!

Why is my batt draining?

Thanks
