Hey guys, my brother in law has an 85 he wants me to pull the dash out of to repair. Anyone have some instructions on the best way to remove one of these. Any hejp would be greatly appreciated.

I pulled the DD on my 86 a few times and it's pretty easy to do. I didn't have a FSM (Factory Service Manual) at the time, so I just looked at what screws had to be removed; removing the DD was straight-forward.

He should be able to see all the screws that need to be removed; the electrical connectors are on the passenger side of the DD. I'm guessing a half-hour or so.

I just had mine out a couple of times last weekend to fix it. There are 4 screws on the side of the plastic cover and 2 in the front near the center console that you need to remove. I also removed the center console cover where the radio is (it doesn't have to be removed but it makes it a little easier to get the DD out). There are 2 screws by the bread box, 2 at the bottom and one on the side by the DD to get the center console off. You will then need to remove the 4 hex screws from the DD (2 at the top corners and 2 at the bottom by the steering column). It is handy to have a small magnet tool to get them out without dropping them in the center console or below the dash. Then you have to move the DD to the left a little and rotate the top out while keeping the bottom pushed in so as to have the dash side face down and the back of it facing up. This allows you to get to the metal clips on the electrical connectors to unclip and remove them. DON'T try to pry them from the front like I did or you can break the connector like I did. Good Luck.
