I brought my 85 heads to the machine shot and the shop indicated that the 85 heads had problems cracking. The crack would be between the intake and exhaust values. Has anyone heard of this? They said they would do a leak test, this would indicate if they are cracked. If it passes I will go for the value job. I wanted to keep the car stock, but if it fails I will go with some after market heads. It is hard to believe that cast iron heads will crack. The other sign of a cracked head is water in your oil.

He's talking about hairline cracks not huge valleys.

Usually all machine shops will magnaflux the heads for cracks before machining because who wants to waste their time right?

Feel good about it you'll know for sure if you got a primo set of heads or if its time to go shoppping.

You wouldn't want to have put the heads back on and while putting the head bolts back in under torque have the thing crack would you?
