Any ideas why my bose stereo takwes up to 4 minutes till it kicks on once I've turned it on..I have an 85 vette

Inside the radio there are capacitors, which among other uses is the filter capability. Usually when these start to go bad they will not work, much like the tach filter that will not allow the tach to work until the engine has sufficiently warmed it up.
If you are the least bit electronically inclined you can replace them, Radio Shack usually has a good selection for replacement... If not I could always look at it for you. Drop me an email...

The following questions come to mind

When you turn the radio on ( when cold ) does the antenna come up and does the radio tune... cassette spin etc etc.. so the head unit looks functional... just no sound from the speakers?

OR

You hit the on knob and nothing happens.
