As the title indicates, I lost 1st and 2nd gear on the way to work this AM. Every thing else seems to work fine. Any ideas.;help

IF you have 3rd and 4th plus the OD working? I would think the linkage has worked loose or the fork inside trans is broken.

Yes, 3rd, 4th and OD seem fine, as well as reverse. I was hoping it might be a linkage problem. Thanks for the reply:thumb

The fork inside the case that moves the selector is press fitted to the shaft that goes through the side cover to the linkage. Mine came loose and had same result as yours..Linkage fine but no gear select. Side cover with selectors can be removed in place after exhaust is dropped; no need to drop trans.

We got the side cover off and the 1-2 Shift Cam shaft that goes through the side plate has sheared off just inside the plate. I've got a couple leads on where to find this part, but does anyone know of a reputable supplier. The 1 place I have found it has not replied to me yet. ;shrug Thanks for all the help.

I think, in addition to just replacing that part, I'd try to assess why it broke. That's an unusual failure. Once reason it might have occured is if there is another problem inside the gear box that increased the load on that shaft.

How many miles are on the trans?

Have you drained the lubricant to see what level of debris are in it?

That's a good idea. The car has 155K on it. It's my daily driver. It had started getting hard to shift the day before. I was thinking my clutch was wearing out. It has 60K on it. It was hard to shift in all gears. I think I just forced it into 1st a little too hard and snapped it. I had planned on having my tech look at it the same day it broke for the hard shift symptom. I'll be curious to see what he says. I plan on replacing the 1-2 shift cam, 3-4 shift cam and both forks as well. (If I can find all the parts). Thanks for the input. The gear oil was clean and free of debris also.
