I just bought an 86 Vette. It has power door locks, and I got two different kinds of keyless entry fobs. Neither works. Does the 86 have a PKE and where is it? I see the 96 does, and has a light on the dash. I am not sure what the 86 has. How to program?

Thanks

Welcome onto the boards there...

If you just bought the car, and you want to get it 'right' (including the Keyless Entry), get a Factory Shop Manual from eBay. NOT Chiton's/Hayne's, but FSM. DC Comics will tell you more than Chilton's and Haynes. Know who publishes them? (see my avatar)

Do you have a multi-meter?

I have never used a multi-meter. I will look into the shop manual. Thanks

Multimeter is an easy tool to use. It tells you if electricity is coming to a wire (or to the receiver of wireless signal sensor for keyless entry in the dash).

We are all born with an analog multimeter (see photo), but some of us are allergic (me, for one) to electricity, so using a digital one is easier, and less painful.

Seriously, you need one for your vette. It will save you AT LEAST hundreds of dollars in repair. I think everyone here will agree on this, and FSM as well.

It's like a calculator, with 2 wires attached. Put one wire on the battery (+), and the other on the (-), and it shows 12V. Or put one on the wire on the connector of the keyless receiver in the dash, and the other on metal (ground), and you see 12V coming to the receiver. Diagnostics are started.
