This problem was every now and then but now it is every morning after sitting over night. It will not idle till it warms up. After that it does fine. It does how ever have a strong smell of fuel I've notice after drive for a while . I have checked all the fuel lines and there are no leaks. I think I have two problems The no ldle in the mornings and the strong smell of fuel . Could the smell be from the vacuum canister in the left front fender? I do all my own repairs so any help would be appreciated. Thanks to any and all......Bob Yates

I have been having exactely the same problem with my '86. At first I thought it was due to cold weather, but it has continued as temperature has warmed up. After about 5-10 min everything fine. I have had an occasional fuel stain on the ground under the front canister on the drivers side as well. I have been forced to left foot brake and right foot gas to keep it running. I was going to change fuel filter and fuel pump. The pump may be original at 111k miles. I also was thinking about water in the tank since it has been wet here (NY).
But I am just guessing.
Any Ideas??

Barrier....I have already replaced the fuel pump and relay. But not for this problem. This morning it started perfect and ran like it is suppose to. Yesterday after driving and stopping it was hard to start. With the windows down the gas smell would make me sick it was so strong. Windows up and A/C on it was fine. I'm going to ckeck by the fuel tank on the drivers side lower part of the gas tank for a bad return hose from the canister. It may be closed off. I think the last time I was there it looked bent and may be closing off.I'll keep looking I'l let you know what I find....Bob Yates
