ignition timing will not advance or retard can start by turning distributer to advance then to retard to run but then it will knock under acceleration have replaced ignition moduel, ecm, e-prom , knock sensor, esc module have tested all wireing from ignition to ecm all esc wireing three diferent ecms two ignition modules got any other ideas???

First off Jeff, welcome to CAC. There are lots of people here who are very knowlegable (I'm not necessarily one of them ;LOL).

I will ask this question though....How far are you turning the distributor to get it started?

If you are turning it an eighth of a turn or less (>45*) it would seem to me that the wiring might be off on the distributor by 1 hole, now that doesn't make much sense, but what that also indicates to me is that the timing chain might have slipped a tooth.

How many miles on this engine? Was it running OK before? Do you know the history of the vehicle? Lots of questions that need to be answered before we can give you much advice.

Has the timing chain been replaced or off the car ? ;shrug

valve timing is not affected runs well once started it doesnt matter which hole you use for number one cylender as long as you adjust distributer accordingly and follow proper fireing order electronic advance-retard doesnt function 72k was running well dont think its a mechanical proublem
