Looking at an 89 Convertable for $14K @ 75K miles. You 89 owners is there anything out of the ordinary that I need to be aware of before I plunge. :nono This will be the wifes jet if you will and I want it to pretty reliable.

Thanks, :cool

I know wheres theres a nice 88 convt. Yellow with new black top. I think he wants 10,500 for it. Its in tampa. It's really nice shape

Price seems a little high for an 89. Got my 95 for $16,500 with 88k miles on it. Though this was one of the cheapest 95's I saw.

Got my '89 convertible 3 years ago. $20,000 with 25,000 miles,
including a 90 day DWN bumper to bumper warrantee.

Things I've had to do since then:
Replace steering rack $1,200.
Replace (original) tires - they had dry rotted , no trackion. $800 GSC's
Replace Park/Neutral switch $50.
Replace power antennae $150.
Repaint rear deck $250 - it was showing some over-buff marks.
Buff entire car and wax $50.
Polish wheels $100 (didn't re-clear-coat).
Replace Auto-temp A/C display panel $125.
Add two Tire Pressure sensors (missing) $250.

Still to go:
Replace/Recover Steering wheel $250 - 450.
Replace A/C cpmpressor (seized up) and convert system to R-134 $800 - 1000 ?
Get Wheels refinished and re-clear-coated right $500 ?

Total probable cost: $24,525 - 24,925.

Feeling I get every time I drive it: PRICELESS !

I'd do it all over again without a second's hesitation.

Good luck on your choice. There's nothing like a Vette.

Seems a bit high. I would sell my '89 roadster for $16,500 and it only has 37k miles. (And I admit that is slightly on the high side...) $14,000 for one with that many miles is too high.

I tend to disagree with most on price. If this is a pristine stock car I don't feel the price is out of line. I paid top dollar for my 85 a few years ago with 70k on the clock and haven't put a dime into it except for a master cylinder a couple of weeks ago. I would think at that price it's a sweet car. Have it thoroughly checked out by your mechanic. At that price there shouldn't be one item wrong on the car. If that's the case and it's what you like I would go for it. I'm of the perssuation there are no bargins. You get what you pay for.

Just my .02

Best of luck:w

89 roadster

I`m picking up an 89 roadster with 30,000 miles on this weekend, perfect except 4 the rear window for less than 14K,granted it is from somebody i know, just thought i would pass along the info.

I paid $14,000 for my '90 convertible almost a year ago, with 50, 000 mi. on it. The only thing not working properly was the airbag system, which I didn't know wasn't working til I saw the video on my car from GM. I've since had that repaired - it was just a ground fault of one of the sensors. Other than having to replace the battery and do other "regular maintenance" work on the car, I've already put about 6.000 mi. on it, including just returning from a 1,000 mi road trip - And the car's been great!

So, judging from my experience, and prices I've seen since, I myself might only pay $14k for that car if it were in pretty good, clean shape, with good tires, and after I had the all the mechanicals thoroughly checked by a good "corvette" mechanic.

THANKS

Thanks Gang,
The 89 never did materialize back at this dealer, so something must have gone wack-o with the original owner and deal. I have sense been over at this dealers lot (Lucas Vettes) in Orange Park and looked at a couple of other C4's that he had and there were numous visual problems with the cars and the asking prices on the windows were high $. I believe that this dealer is trying to get rich on his vettes. He has some nice looking C5's as well and those prices are high too (seems to me).
You know there is something about just completing a body restoration on your car and then going out into the world and trying to buy another. You look at the car harder and those problem items that you would not normally see have a tendency to jump out at you and say warning warning, $$$$$$.
Thanks again for everyones input.

I'll Keep Looking,

Well Bob, I'll sell you mine for 16k, but that's as low as I'd possibly let her go for. If you hurry and come get her now, you could drive her home before the snow starts falling. :)

:w

Thank J. Once I moved from Illinois and went South, my blood would probibly freeze if went that far North. I don't even think I own a coat heavy enough. :eek
Car looks great, and the tripple black would keep me warm on the chilly winter days of 60 here in FL. :)

Thanks again, and we'll see ya all in the Bahamas'

Hey now, you don't have to rub it in! :L

I think the price is fair. I paid $15.0K for mine in May of 2001 with 45,000 miles. It has been a great Vette to date with few problems. I get about 26 MPG on trips and the power is good. I have the 2:59 rear axle ratio. This makes the car a little weak in the lauch but it cruises at 1700 RPM at 70.

I have the BOSE radio and that IS a weak point. Everything else is good.

Over Heating Problems

Hi Guys/Gals

First time Vette owner here

This is a great forum that has helped me already but I need a bit more help if anyone can???

I just got an 89 Conv. and the temp climbed to 270 so I shut it down, let it cool off and took it to a dealer. They hooked it up to the computer and told me they sent the signal to turn the primaey Rad. fan on...but it didn't come on and they didn't have nor could they get one without looking for it used or maybe aftermarket.

After reading your fourm for 15 mins. I went out to the car and played with the wires on the relay and now the fan comes on at 230 but the temp. still climbs to 270 then I shut it off.

The car has 63k and is in fair shape. It passed Maryland inspection, but it needs about 1,000.00 to 2,000.00 to make it "real" right.

I'm hopeing that its a bad Thermastat or something else minor.

Any ideas?

Thanks again for your knowledge.:confused
