90/91 Callaways - how does the air filter work?

Malc,

I put on a less restrictive air filter cover which can be made by cutting the fins away from the original air filter cover or by purchasing one already like this from Ecklers or Mid-America parts. See example here

That's the sort of thing I'm after

but as the 90 uses a completely different setup from the 91 the airbox is a different size and shape. I'm actually in the process of making something similar out of fibreglass and fitting it in place of the existing air box cover.

I'm waiting for the first layer of resin to dry as we speak!

If it works and fits OK, I'll post some pics.

Malc.

Yes, too much air through not a big enough space. 89x2 has a long K&N cone on his, and I think he said it collapses a bit under boost :D

BTW the cone filter on my car was for a Honda, but it bolted up perfectly to the MAF sensor.
Yes, I do have an open K&N - an 8" open filter, no signs of collapsing though :confused

...I'm in the process of installing T3/T4 hybred turbos . They just barely fit in the space of the Roto-masters. They have a TO4E compressor housing and a T3k center section and turbine housing. Should be good for an extra 300hp or so.
Turbocat, welcome back :beer

Sounds like an interesting project that may benefit all - keep us posted :v

It will be interested to see the turbos fitted especially as I have so little room on the starter side (solenoid +ve was shorting on the turbo and I had to grind the post down to stop it killing my starter.
Yes, the driver side turbo will fit with no modification. The passanger side exhaust manifold (header ) needs the flange that bolts to the turbo cutoff and turned about 5 degrees to make the turbo fit. Because the turbos are larger, the wonder bar needs to be modified for larger ducts to the turbo. A stock hood is used because the turbos need a larger intercooler that is now mounted if front of the radiator.tubes from the turbos go over the top of the engine and over the radiator to the intercooler. This is perfect because the front mounted intercooler is in the direct air flow of the openings in the aerobody. The Callaway hood has the interior passages for the intercoolers on top of the valvecovers in the way and I also did not want to modify or destroy the Callaway hood.
