90 ZR-1 A/C Compressor

A good friend of mine has a 90 ZR-1 with an A/C compressor that's leaking so bad that it will no longer hold a charge. We have found that GM had an A/C Compressor Gasket Kit p/n 10158039 but according to the dealer, it is no longer available

He can get a reman compressor for around $400 at the shop where we work but this kit was only around $90 and that would sure beat buying a reman compressor.

To make matters worse, it appears that this particular compressor was unique to the 90 ZR-1. The 91 and 92 cars show a different compresor! Anyone have any ideas on what to do??

I’m in the middle of changing my ’90 AC compressor now. I got a replacement from “Kragen Auto Parts” price $306.99 plus tax. This included the clutch. They had to order it. It took 2 days to get here. It fits just fine. I have not finished putting the plenum back on, so don’t have it running yet.
