93' Climate Control

Hi guys/gals,

I'm looking for some advice with my electronic head unit. It is very tempermental, works fine then doesn't. When it doesn't I can't set it to auto or turn it off. The mode buttons on the right side work fine. When it's not working the fan control also won't toggle back and forth from auto to manual. I've pulled fuses to try to reset it, but not much more than that. When it is working, everything is normal blows cold and works great. The dealer says I need a new head unit. I've researched it some and there are guys who have taken it out and cleaned the contact points and had good luck. If I need one, any ideas where to go. The Partsladi ebay store looks like a good resource, but nothing for a 93 at this time. Advice please?? Anyone have symptoms like these and take it out for cleaning?

I have to take out the radio this winter to send it out to have the cd fixed too, might be a good time to do both.

I have a 90 with the climate control and for years I'd come out to a dead battery for no apparent reason. I'd jumper and start and everything would work fine for weeks, then the same thing.
One night I went out to get some stuff out of the car real late and the blower motor for the defroster was just humming along all by it's self with nothing turned on in the car.
I played with the climate control which seemed to work great except I couldn't control fan speed or turn the fan off.
Turns out it was a bad module which is located on the firewall but is controlled by the climate control unit.
Might be cheaper to shotgun it than disassemble your dash.
