Yep! your symptoms were exactly as mine when my opti tossed it's cookies but mine threw a code. $700 bucks for an opti is highway robbery!

Wish you had been on the forum a bit sooner. Hope you replaced the water pump as well.

Nope, just the opti....only have 40000 miles on her, I hope the water pump will last longer than that. Yeah, the bill was over 1500 for the fix and 1300 from the 'Stealership" for nothing....expensive experimenting....yeah, I have learned a lot.

oh yeah, no codes at all....not until I took it to this guy who runs his own shop who had an awesome Sun scope that showed everything....way better than the dealership....go figure..

Check your ignition control module (ICM). They have a tendency to fail without warning and can take your coil out with it, resulting in a sudden death/crank, no-start condition.

They can test them at AutoZone, NAPA, Checkers, etc...
